Vietnam eBusiness Index 2018 was built based on the survey conducted nationwide in late 2017. This survey was carried out in the context of e-commerce’ rapid growth and the approval of the Prime Ministry on the Master Plan for E-commerce Development termed 2016-2020.
After 20 years appearing in Vietnam, the Internet has made deep and wide impacts on social-economy. Since the formation of e-commerce in 2016, it jumped to the stage of booming development. According to VECOM’ evaluation, Vietnam’ e-commerce growth rate in 2017 was at 25% and it is predicted to remain high for next 3 years 2018-2020.
Vietnam eBusiness Index 2018 (EBI) is built from results of thousands of surveys at enterprises nationwide, using methodology inherited from previous years. In particular, this year, the Index put a special attention on the situation of domestic and foreign domains registration and usage, in the correlation with income per capita and number of local enterprises. Considering the high connection between domestic domain ratio on a thousand of people and infrastructure including e-commerce manpower, similar to 2017, the Index was not applied for those provinces with lowest rates.
Although e-commerce has expanded to many regions, big gaps still remain. Two biggest economic centers, Hochiminh City and Hanoi continue showing strong growth. Besides Danang, which is the central city in the middle, provinces with higher rankings are almost satellite provinces of above 2 big cities. Other than evaluation and ranking based on criteria of infrastructure and human resource; business-to-consumer transaction (B2C); business-to-business transaction (B2B); government-to-business (G2B), EBI report 2018 also estimates a couple of challenges with considerable impacts on national e-commerce in coming years, including tax management, sharing economy and blockchain.
With all due respect, Vietnam E-commerce Association announce the publication of Vietnam eBusiness Index 2018 Report. All comments are welcome in contribution to making a better report in following years.
