Expanding online export roadmap for Vietnamese businesses at Cross-border E-commerce Forum (VOIEF) 2024

Hanoi, June 27, 2024 - Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM) coordinates with Amazon Global Selling to open "Cross-border E-commerce Forum 2024", focusing on updating orientation policies, outlining proposals and solutions to expand online export routes, promoting global business for Vietnamese businesses in the coming period.

The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Information and Communications, with the participation of representatives from the Department of Import and Export, Department of E-commerce & Digital Economy - under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Department of Digital Economy and Digital Society - under the Ministry of Information and Communications, domestic and international associations, organizations, and businesses operating in the fields of export and e-commerce. Through discussion sessions and the guidance of leading industry experts and policy makers, the Forum outlines policy directions for support from state agencies, forming a roadmap to build a comprehensive system. Strong support system, tools, solutions and initiatives to help Vietnamese businesses adapt to digital transformation and participate in exporting through e-commerce, thereby opening up new paths for businesses to develop sustainably. on the global market.

Speaking at the opening of the Forum, Mr. Bui Trung Kien - Vice President, Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM) said: "Focusing on developing cross-border e-commerce is one of the important pillars that the Government is concerned about journey to promote Vietnam's export potential. Building a policy environment towards cross-border success

In the context that exports are an important growth driver of the Vietnamese economy, taking advantage of digital technology and cross-border e-commerce to exploit global export potential is increasingly being recognized by the Government and the business community appreciation and focused navigation. One of the focuses of the Forum is the need to promote a policy environment with much support for the development of cross-border e-commerce in Vietnam.

At the first session, Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director, Import-Export Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade clearly stated the context and prospects of Vietnam's Import-Export, according to him: "From a trade deficit country, Vietnam has gradually transformed into a trade surplus country. By 2023, Vietnam recorded the 8th consecutive year of trade surplus with a value of nearly 30 billion USD. In which, import and export activities in the first 6 months of 2024 continued to record received positive results. In the first quarter of 2024, total import and export turnover of goods was estimated at 178.04 billion USD, an increase of 15.5% over the same period last year, of which, exports were estimated at 93.06 billion USD USD, up 17% over the same period last year (same period in 2023 decreased by 11.6%); imports are estimated to reach 84.98 billion USD, up 13.9% over the same period last year (same period in 2023 decreased). 15.4%). Currently, the production and business situation is developing quite well thanks to contributing to the recovery of export growth. In addition, policy orientation to promote online exports in the period 2026 - 2030 is important for promoting the development of cross-border e-commerce in Vietnam. Mr. Hoang Ninh - Head of Digital Government Department, Department of E-Commerce and Digital Economy, Ministry of Industry and Trade, proposed 06 key tasks and solutions:

Firstly, Building and perfecting institutions

Second, Improve infrastructure for sustainable e-commerce development

Third, Build core platforms and systems for e-commerce

Fourth, Regional linkage in e-commerce development

Fifth, Propaganda, training and human resource development

Sixth, International cooperation.

“The Ministry of Industry and Trade has implemented many solutions to support small and medium-sized enterprises through both in-person and online training courses completely free of charge, so businesses in need can register with the Department to attend. Participate in training programs on cross-border e-commerce, thereby helping businesses have the opportunity to promote the consumption of their products in domestic and international markets through e-commerce platforms" - Mr. Ninh emphasized.

At the "Cross-Border E-Commerce Forum 2024", a dynamic policy discussion with the participation of many different stakeholders, including representatives from Amazon Global Selling Vietnam, Department of Digital Economy and Digital Society, USAID Vietnam, Vietnam Logistics Human Resources Development Association VALOMA also took place immediately afterwards. The discussion focused on building and promoting regulations, support policies, incentives and infrastructure to support Vietnamese businesses in expanding their operations beyond borders seamlessly, effective, sustainable.

Open up new opportunities for Vietnam's online exports with synergistic initiatives

In addition to supporting policies, the Forum also gathers and updates a series of joint solutions, programs and initiatives initiated by pioneers in the industry to successfully promote Vietnam's e-commerce exports. These include the launch of the Vietnam Online Export Support Alliance (VESA) established by VECOM, including industrial service providers, logistics companies and technology partners. to connect and support the Vietnamese small and medium-sized business community to digitally transform and exploit online export opportunities

At the last session, Mr. Trinh Khac Toan - Northern Regional Director of Amazon Global Selling Vietnam provided forum attendees with the online export picture of Vietnamese Enterprises on Amazon in recent years, and at the same time Introducing innovative and constantly improving programs and services from Amazon to exploit the potential of production, export, and building a global brand suitable to the special needs of Vietnamese businesses. Discussions also revolved around human resource training initiatives, industry ecosystem development, brand promotion orientation and accessing market trends through digital data and technology. The multifaceted approaches of Amazon Global Selling and the experts in the Forum have reinforced a firm commitment to shaping the future of cross-border e-commerce in Vietnam.

According to the report "Local sellers, Global consumers: E-commerce export trends in Vietnam 2022" by AccessPartnership, Vietnam's B2C e-commerce export value is expected to reach 296.3 trillion VND by 2027. In addition, Amazon data shows that Vietnamese businesses have expanded their international business scope with the number of products exported and sold on Amazon increasing by an astonishing 300% in 5 years. last year.
